Observations and Aggravations!

Posted by Unknown at 1:02 AM 0 comments
Observation: Don't you find that the things you really want to be able to do are often the ones that you worry about the most?

Aggravation: I've been using Phoenix and Firestorm for ages. Lately though, when logging in, the log in just hangs and then tells me I've been logged out. Don't know what to do to fix it.

Freebie Look 0001 - Totally Free!

Posted by Unknown at 8:48 AM 0 comments
This look is/was totally free at the time of this writing. I can't guarantee that it will be free forever, many times an offer or gift is for a limited time only. So please bear that in mind!

Okay so... this is a head to toe look. You can click the pics to see them in full 1024 x 1024 size if you like.

Skin: Aeva/Heartsick - Group Gift! Group is CURRENTLY Free to Join. This is the Selene Skin which is one of three female skins on the wall. I think this is a perfect skin really, the skin tone is soft and sort of medium, the makeup is lovely and not too heavy. Try it!

Shape: I made this shape especially to post with. It is modified from the Girl Next Door shape which is part of your Library. More on this later.

Eyes: Amacci - Click on the Subscriber Kiosk and receive a pack of eyes as a gift.I am wearing the Winter Image Eyes.

Eyelashes: - Sky Everett Designs. At the shop there is a pack of free prim eyelashes. I am wearing the Natural Long pair from the pack.

Makeup Layers - Nomine - Cleavage Medium. Nomine has a package of useful skin modifying layers including cleavage, freckles, moles, etc. for FREE.These layers are also tintable so you can get the right shade for your skin etc. You tint these layers via appearance > outfit> click on the layer > click on the color swatch and adjust as needed. then save as naming it to something useful you will remember.

Makeup Layers - Glamorize - Unisex Eyeliner - this is part of their Free Dove package.

Outfit: Top - Sn@tch - Summer School Tank White - this is a lucky board prize right now which I was fortunate enough to win. The boards change every five minutes so you stand a good chance of grabbing it. There are several lucky boards in the game room area, also a lucky dip, riot boards and fishing. Sn@tch also has a very nice full avatar gift for those under 30 days old.

Outfit: Jeans - Apple May - These are from the Bed Story free gift outfit which can be found at Free Dove. (see above for slurl) The outfit comes with a nice tank top too, I just wanted to show something different with it.  You can find some other nice outfits for free for those under 30 days at the Apple May store upstairs in the newbie section.

Shoes: Baby Monkey - Classic Flat Black - This is part of the Classic Shoe Pack which is available at Fabfree Headquarters. Baby Monkey also has several lucky boards and midnight mania at the shop, plus group gifts - however the group is pay to join.

Hair: Analog Dog - Analog Dog and it's Sister Brand Point B have a few free balls out on their beach. The link goes directly to the beach where the items are, follow the arrows if you need to. There are three free balls on the beach and two different sets of hair. I am wearing Ladonna in Nutmeg. Incidentally, this hair is modify so you can also tint it a darker shade or red if you wish. I am also wearing a free nutmeg hair base which Analog Dog provides. You can buy a whole pack of hairbases there for free.

Jewelry: Sn@tch - Earrings & Bangles from the Complete Avatar Kit mentioned above.

Jewelry: Necklace - Chop Zuey - Hot Tiger Men's Gift - I never pay too much attention to whether it's for mens or womens per se as long as it fits which this does fine. This is available at the Free Dove. (see slurl for Free Dove above) Chop Zuey also offers gifts regularly to their group members, but the group is a pay to join group.

Belt - Female Rocker Belt - This is part of your Linden Library. I had to modify it to fit but it works perfectly as you can see from the pics.

And that's the outfit!

Now regarding the shape: The Girl Next Door Shape in the Linden Library is full perm. You can mod it yourself until you like it, or if you would like my version, you can notecard me for it and I'll give you a no transfer version FREE. The shape is pretty average imho, about six and a half feet tall which is average to short for Second Life, she has size 10 hands for prim nails and fits a medium mesh fairly well. The shape will be mod so you can adjust it if you want her to be smaller or larger anywhere.

For a few dollars more: I just wanted to note that for a few dollars more, you can really make this outfit your own even more. If you spend a little under three dollars usd for lindens, which is the smallest amount that you can spend - you will end up with a little under 500 lindens. Analog Dog is offering some of their older hair styles at 25 lindens per style in a range of colors, i think you get four or five colors per pack. There is a very similar style to Ladonna available for this price if you go to the SALE area.

In my humble opinion, eyes and lashes are probably two of the most important things for a female look after skin, shape and hair. I would suggest you consider upgrading your eyes from somewhere like IKON, Insufferable Dastard, Amacci or Poetic Colors. The price for nice eyes is between 100 and 200L.Lashes,if you want to upgrade, I suggest going to Redgrave or Lelutka for lashes, again you're going to see prices around 150 to 250 for nice lashes.

Now, a lot of people ask about where to get an ao so you can get rid of that duck walk. There are several places which offer beginner or starter aos for free. Semotion, Vista and Akeyo all offer starter aos. There is a very nice basic ao for male or female from Oracul available at the Fab Free station as well as other places for FREE. (See slurl above for Fab Free)

Truth Hair! Milly, Liberty and Froujke

Posted by Unknown at 9:18 PM 0 comments
So here's a quick post of new-ish Truth Hairs I love. These are all mesh hairs, and in the case of Liberty and Milly - they come with huds for coloring the ribbon or pins respectively. My one small complaint with Truth Mesh hair is that I wish he would provide more than one size, as all of his mesh hairs seems to be a little too big for my head which is an average size. I'm sure there's some folks who'd like a bigger size also, just a thought. The other thing is that I wish he'd include some flexi add on pieces so that the mesh doesn't look so much like a helmet. Mesh is better than sculpts in the helmet area but it still could use work in my humble opinion. Anyway, other than that, as I have for a long time, I love Truth hair and the beautiful styles and textures used. I think that Froukje is my favorite of these three, it's such a simple and elegant do for just about any kind of event you can think of.

As usual, click the pic for a bigger 1024x1024 view.

I am wearing the Ellio Bikini from Boom @ Collabor88 for July in salt striped and the Belleza Lily v2 skin Tan #3. I'm wearing the included dark brows and hair base layers with it. My lipstick layers are from Mock Cosmetics, my eyeshadow layers are from Kosh and my liner/lash layers are from Boom. Eyes are from Ikon, nails from Mandala (super long nail palette) and pose is from Purple Poses.

If you have questions about what I do to edit my photos, please see above on the page Picture Editing vs Straight from SL :)

Comfy Newness!

I have had a lot of issues with mesh, but some of the items I'm seeing out right now are so tempting! Also, I read a few things on how to get mesh to fit better without totally compromising your shape. The main tip that really worked for me was to adjust breast join to around 50... it helped a lot!

Anyway, see below for my pics, credits and then more commentary!

Turquoise and Brown

Posted by Unknown at 3:57 AM 0 comments
I know everyone is all aflutter for Hair Fair right now and with good reason! But in the meantime, here's a little look of the day I threw together in the middle of the night. More talking after the jump!

This first pic I played around in photoshop a bit, applying shadows, liquifying some rough edges and so on. I'm still an amateur but I was pretty happy with it.

This second one, aside from a little cropping and so on, they are un touched.
